Wilma Rudolph was an Olympic athlete who participated in track and field in the 1960 Olympics in Rome. Rudolph was the first American woman to win 3 gold medals in track and field. When Rudolph won gold in Rome, a celebration was held for her in her hometown of Clarksville, Tennessee. She did not attend the celebration because it was segregated.
