Description:

President Abraham Lincoln is assassinated at Ford's Theater. This occurred weeks after the Confederate has surrendered. Whitman was a clerk at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Whitman composes two poses in honor of Lincoln which were "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd" and "O Captain! My Captain!"
