jan 1, 1905 - Lochner v. New York
Description:
This was a Supreme Court decision regarding labor laws. Joseph Lochner believed that the Bakership Act in New York was unconstitutional because it limited the number of hours a week he and his workers could work in the bakery. He believed that people had the right to choose how long they wanted to work. The Supreme Court agreed with Lochner and declared that state governments could not enforce restrictions on individual businesses-- that power was reserved for the federal government.
