On September 1st, 1939, Germany invaded Poland using Blitzkrieg, which is a surprise attack using an overwhelming force that may consist of mechanized infantry formations. Its meant to secure a swift victory, and it did just that. On September 17th, the Soviets also attacked Poland, which secured a Soviet-German victory. This started WWII.
