may 17, 1954 - Brown v Board of Education
Description:
Supreme Court case that overturned Plessy v Ferguson, ruling that racial segregation violates the 14th amendment. Specifically desegregated schools.
But, schools would remain mostly segregated for a while (kinda untill today a lil bit lmao oopsie). This was because the ruling was vague enough that Southern states could push off desegregating their schools.
Federal troops were sometimes needed to allow black children to attend school, happened with the "Little Rock Nine."
