aug 18, 1516 - The Concordat of Bologna
Description:
King Francis I and Pope Leo X signed the Concordat of Bologna which allowed the Catholic Church to gain income from French churches. The King benefited by being allowed to tax the clergy and appoint Catholic Bishops in France. As a result of the strong relationship between the king and the Catholic Church, the Reformation was temporarily kept under control.
