aug 2, 1964 - Gulf of Tonkin Incident
Description:
Read the article for a more nuanced report because there are some specific details that shift the narrative, but I am going to write about what this thing says.
On August 2nd, 1964, North Vietnamese ships shot torpedos at the Maddox, which they believed to have been involved in a nearby raid. Another thing supposedly happened on Aughts 4th, but that evidence is a lot more sketchy. These actions were significantly extrapolated and used by Lyndon B Johnson to ask Congress to allow him to take "all actions necessary" to take down North Vietnam.
The passed legislation from congress was the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution.
