mar 1, 1777 - Articles of Confederation
Description:
This was the first national constitution. They initially gave very, very little power to any central government, as they just seceded from a government and didn't want to create a new tyrannical government.
Major limitations of the Articles of Confederation:
It could not enforce state or individual taxation or a military draft
It could not regulate trade among states or international trade
It had no executive or judicial branch.
The legislative branch gave every state one vote, regardless of population.
Laws would require the support of 9 of the 13 states to pass
In order to amend the Articles, they would require the unanimous support of the states.
