Description:

The 13th Amendment to the Constitution officially ended slavery. The amendment came 8 months after the end of the civil war. The 1864 Republican victory was a guarantee that the amendment would be a success. The amendment passed the House in January of 1865, and was later sent to the states to be ratified. Georgia ratified it in December of 1865, and slavery officially ended in the United States.
