On April 20th, Adolf Hitler is born in the Austria-Hungarian Empire's Braunau am Inn. Both of his parents are from impoverished peasant households. His austere and aloof father, Alois, becomes a customs official and wants Adolf to pursue a public service career. Klara, Hitler's mother, is kinder to her son, adoring and spoiling him. Adolf starts school at the age of six and, while being clearly brilliant, he is uninterested in formal education, finally graduating with a terrible academic record.
