Jackie Robinson was the first African American MLB player. Jackie started off his professional career in the negro leagues, but was soon signed by Brooklyn dodgers president Branch Rickey to try to help integrate the leagues. Jackie was important because he broke the decades long color line in the MLB by playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1947 to 1956.
