sep 4, 1957 - The Little Rock Nine
Description:
The Little Rock Nine were a group of nine black students who enrolled at formerly all-white Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas.
It provoked intense national debate about racial segregation and civil rights. The Little Rock school ended up closing instead of allowing desegregation and many others ended up doing the same. Others ended up implementing “school-choice” programs that subsidized the attendance of white students in segregated private academies.
