apr 30, 1975 - Fall of Saigon

Description:

South Vietnamese were desperately pleading for U.S. support as the North Vietnamese surrounded Saigon for the last assault on the capital city. After a last stand at Xuan Loc, 40 miles northeast of Saigon, the fall of Xuan Loc on April 21 and President Ford’s statement at Tulane stating that the war had ended was bad news. On April 30th, North Vietnamese tanks crashed through the gates of the Presidential Palace in Saigon, causing the South Vietnamese to surrender.

This was the last event of the Cold War. They left the South Vietnamese alone and after the battle ended, the Vietnam war finally came to an end.
