Western areas of Pennsylvania protested the taxes that the US government placed on whiskey, called the Whiskey Rebellion.The origin of the tax was mainly to pay national debt, but also because “social reformers“ wanted the public to be aware of the harm of alcohol and establish a “sin tax”
