Description:

Trained in Vienna, Austria, Gottfried Lindauer (along with C.F. Goldie) was a prolific artist whose paintings are well-known for their representation of Māori through this time.

His paintings of Māori portraiture and scenes have become a lens into history capturing fine details of Māori dress, adornment, and moko at a time when photography was emerging as a new technology.
