jan 1, 1264 - Statute of Kalisz (1264)

Description:

In 1264, the Duke of Greater Poland issued the Statute of Kalisz. It gave rights to the Jewish minority, such as protection from hate speech, not having to pay for the transport of their dead, being allowed to walk or ride anywhere in the kingdom, not having to pay more tolls than Christians did, being allowed to buy items and touch food as Christians did. If a Christian was found to be jeering and pulling faces at a synagogue, he was fined!
