sep 1, 1870 - Sharecropping
Description:
Land owners would provide housing, tools, and seed to the sharecroppers. Sharecroppers were mostly white, and some were former slaves, they got ⅓-½ of the crops with a price set by the landowner. This happened during the Reconstruction and it was a new system of economic exploitation that they were trapped in. It allowed more freedom than slavery did.
