sep 22, 1862 - Emancipation Proclamation

Description:

After the Union victory at Antietam, Lincoln issued an Emancipation Proclamation. It declared that starting on January 1, 1863 all slaves throughout rebellious states were free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation didn't free even one slave, it was a turning point in the war. Then on January 1st, came the final proclamation. It left out border slave states and 3 of the slave states controlled by the Union army, on terms that these states would not rebel.
