On November 9th 1989 the most important event ending the cold war happened. The Berlin wall was taken down. This as the first time since 1961 that the borders west were fully open. The wall was built on august 13 1961 by the communist government of east Germany. In the years it stood it was a guarded concrete barrier that divided the city of Berlin. It cut a line directly through the entire city. On October 3 1990 east and west Germany united into one.Added to timeline:
