jan 1, 452 - Attila the Hun invades Italy and stays out of Rome as per request of Pope Leo I

Description:

The Huns invade Northern Italy and the Emperor flees to Rome to send Pope Leo I to persuade Attila and the Huns to return to Hungaria. The Huns destroyed several cities, but Milan is saved because Attila is offered a huge amount of gold. Attila threatens Rome but does not attack due to the persuasion of Pope Leo I. Attila is soon compelled to withdraw because of news of reinforcements from the Eastern Roman Empire and a plague breaking out among the Huns.
