Description:

Basically put provisions of CRA in the Constitution so it couldn't be overridden. Gave citizenship status to all American born people (save Native Americans) and repealed the Dred Scott decision. Said state laws couldn't deny due process or discriminate against any group of people. Johnson vetoed it, but Republicans overrode the veto in Congress. Ratified in 1868 despite its introduction 2 years earlier. Made in response to the South's black codes.
