nov 1, 1992 - David Carson Releases Issue #1 Of Ray Gun Magazine
Description:
David Carson prominent Graphic Designer, and a teacher that resides in California releases first issue of Ray Gun.
Ray Gun was an American rock magazine that was first published in 1992 (Santa Monica, California) by its founding publisher Marvin Jarrett and Art Director David Carson.
Although, Ray Gun was a magazine it was also an exploration of typography, magazine layout and visual storytelling. It as a whole was unique and created a shift in approach by many graphic designers.
Carson's style influenced the movement of deconstructivism in design - creating a new wave of designers.
Deconstructivism is the absence of harmony. The designers distort elements and create a sense of chaos. The visuals are unpredictable in appearance. It's a clear rejection to mainstream media. This is what Ray Gun was set out to be with obscure opinions on the 90s pop culture that attracted many young readers.
