mar 1, 1917 - Zimmermann telegram
Description:
The Zimmerman telegram was the last straw that ended efforts at peace between the U.S. and Germany. In the telegram, German foreign minister Arthur Zimmerman offered to help Mexico recover territories that it lost to the U.S. in exchange for its alliance. The telegram was intercepted by British intelligence and then was reported on by newspapers in the U.S. (on March 1, 1917) where the news spread like wildfire. Naturally, the news stirred up nationalist angers among Americans and finally convinced President Wilson that a war against Germany was inevitable.
