nov 27, 1868 - Battle of Washita

Description:

Part of the clearing of tribes, U.S. General George Custer led his forces to an area near present day Cheyenne in Wyoming in November of 1868. There he and his forces, while suffering only 21 casualties themselves killed over 150 women, men, and children, including chief Black Kettle, and burned the Natives food and all their belongings. This was a skirmish that eventually led to Philip Sheridan's Winter Campaign.
