After the Civil War, America entered a state of reform. In this state, ideas of nativism, Manifest Destiny and westward expansion. Especially with ideas of moving out west to fulfill the "American Dream" is what really catapulted the start to Indian Wars, with more contact between native peoples and American settlers, causing tension and eventually fighting.
