jan 1, 1964 - Civil Rights Act of 1964
Description:
Although this Act was a huge achievement for the civil rights movement and the African American struggle for equality, it was also a victory for the women's movement. Title VII of the act barrs employment discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, color, relation and sex. The sex portion of Title VII was added at the last minute. This resulted in tremendous changes and opportunities for women in the workforce and set the precedent and the basis on which future legislation was passed regarding women's rights in employment.
