About a quarter of a million people marched in Washington for freedom and in support of the civil rights movement. It was at this march that Martin Luther King delivered his "I Have A dream" speech which is one of the most significant and famous speedes in U.S. history. His speech was carried live by tv stations across the country. This march joined together the NAACP, the SCLC, and CORE. This coordinated effort after a 10 year battle, led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
