apr 22, 1793 - Proclamation of Neutrality
Description:
The United States issued the Proclamation of Neutrality of 1793 as an official stance on the French Revolution, essentially stating that they were not going to get involved and support either side of the conflict. As a result, Jefferson, a proponent of aiding the French, resigned as Secretary of State. It also led to the French government's reaction, the Citizen Genet incident.
