jan 1, 1912 - Moral Diplomacy

Description:

Woodrow Wilson ran for president in 1912 and one of his resolutions as president was that diplomacy was going to be handled in a better manner in contrast to the immoral manner in which it was being handled with. He called this moral diplomacy and in his first term he implemented a certain standard for how Foreign Relations must be handled. He wanted to show other nations that the US respected them and that he was focused on helping these nations rather than having the imperialistic mindset that the US had in the previous years. He tried to rebuild alliances with the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Panama, by passing acts such as the Jones act of 1916 which helped The Philippines come closer to reaching independence and another act that stated all Puerto Rico citizens were citizens of the United States. Wilson’s moral diplomacy helped The US become more peaceful with these other territories and helped the United States become less corrupt with how they dealt with foreign policies.
