jan 1, 1912 - The Lodge Corollary

Description:

The alienation of both Latin America and Japan was due to Henry Cabot Lodge, who was a senator from Massachusetts. When Japan tried to purchase a part of Mexico, which extended to California, Lodge saw this as a threat to the nation because he thought that they might attempt to acquire this land. He then implemented the Lodge Corollary to the Monroe doctrine which stated that nations that were not European cannot own territory located in the Western Hemisphere. President Taft opposed this which angered Latin American nations in Japan even more causing the US’s is relationship with them to worsen
