jan 1, 1904 - Theodore Roosevelt’s Big Stick Policy: The Panama Canal
Description:
As America was expanding and stretched from Puerto Rico to islands in the Pacific, The United States decided to build a canal through central America and that would connect The Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. Latin America was not too pleased with the building of the canal because of the damage that was done from the revolution in Panama since Columbia was demanding to be given more money and control over the canal, leading to a revolution for panama's independence. The US won this rebellion, and they were granted all the rights over this canal. President Roosevelt controlled this project and decided that they would use land in Panama to build the canal. Several individuals that worked on this project lost their lives and two individuals played a major role in the building of the Panama Canal such as George Goethals and Dr. William Gorgas.
