mar 2, 1901 - Other Results of the War: Platt Amendment
Description:
Although the teller amendment was in place which granted Cuba the right to control its government, the US military remained in Cuba until 1901 and they left due to Cuba’s agreement to follow the terms that were stated in the Platt Amendment. This amendment stated that Cuba would have to agree to never gain independence through foreign powers, allow The US to deal with its affairs and maintain order in the territory, and lastly to keep U.S. naval bases in Cuba such as Guantanamo Bay. Cuba was reluctant to accept this amendment however they did make the Island a US territory.
