jan 1, 1889 - Latin America: Pan-American Conference

Description:

The secretary of state of Maine, James G. Blaine, sought out to protect Latin America and the Western Hemisphere from European powers. Blaine wanted to establish a better relationship between the United States and southern areas which led to the Pan-American conference in Washington. Individuals that represented different nations in the Western Hemisphere attended this conference and they created an organization that looked over international affairs such as trade and other major issues. This helped achieve political and economic progress as the nations decided to set a foundation and a goal on how to improve these issues. This union still remains today and deals with foreign affairs.
