jan 1, 1903 - National Women's Trade Union
Description:
Building on the settlement house movement, women organized the NWTU in order to get higher wages and an 8 hour workday for working class women. This organization of women won the Muller v. Oregon Supreme Court case which upheld an Oregon law for a 10 hour workday for women. Also, convinced 40 states to set up pensions for widows and working mothers. However, all of the work of the QTUL was based on the member women's belief that they were the weaker sex and thus was all protective legislation for the weaker sex.
