oct 21, 1884 - The Second Great Awakening: Millenialism
Description:
Most people had religious enthusiasm for the church because of the widespread belief that was the end of the world marked by the second coming of Jesus. William Miller, a preacher, grew widely popular because of his prediction for the date of Jesus’ second coming on October 21, 1844. To most people’s surprise nothing had occurred, and his supporters (known as Millerites) continued to support him, forming a new Christian denomination known as the Seventh-Day Adventists.
