Description:
On July 21, 1861 Union General Irvin McDowell left Washington with 3,000 men and advanced into Virginia to battle the Confederates. They fought along Bull Run, a river north of Manassas. On the South side the men held stiff and didn’t move, but the Union pushed forward. At the end the battle was given to the Confederates after the Union troops panicked and fled. This battle showed how lengthy and difficult this war will become.
