Description:

A pivotal moment in the war was the siege of Vicksburg which ultimately gave the north control of the Mississippi River and effectively splitting the Confederacy in two fronts and weakening their supply routes. As part of the Anaconda Plan, taking control of the Mississippi and keeping Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas disconnected from the other southern states, ultimately provided advantageous and ended up being one of the decisive moments in the Confederacy’s loss. In effort to sting the Union, Robert E. Lee attacked the Union’s stronghold in Gettysburg. This attack proved to be one of the deadliest confrontations in the war costing over 50,000 lives on both fronts.
