jan 1, 1849 - Settlement of the Western Territories: Mining Frontier: Gold Rush (CUL)(GEO)
Description:
The Mining Frontier began in 1849 with the discovery of gold in California, causing an economic and cultural revolution on par with the great reawakening. Not only did a majority of the population move west in search of it, but so did many immigrants have incentive to move into the U.S. again. A population boom occurred, the economy was in overdrive, and new subcultures were forming in the west. These territories would be California, Colorado, and the Dakotas. The settlements that formed in search of gold would come to be known as boomtowns. These would die and become ghost towns, but the few that survived are well known today like San Francisco , San Diego, and Santa Fe. The main immigrants would become the Chinese, with 1/3 of the miners.
