oct 1, 1865 - The Expanding Economy: Foreign Commerce (WXT)
Description:
Following the Civil War, the American economy expanded thanks to ingenuity and industrial innovation. Industrialization paved way to creating goods faster and cheaper. American trade also became a large part of America’s expanding economy which led to large shipping and transportation barons to surface. Demand for agricultural, cattle and farming products for export and importing products from China and Europe, paved way to the expansion of ports and shipping lines in several waterfront cities. The continued expansion of railroads, paved roads and construction also helped more and more Americans move and expand into larger economies. As innovation in several industries grew, Americans were able to work more, travel more and ultimately consume more.
