jan 1, 1840 - European Immigrants: English, German, Scotch-Irish(MIG, CUL)

Description:

Immigrants to the British colonies not only came from England, there was also a large number of people who emigrated from countries such as Germany, France, Ireland and Scotland. These immigrants usually came to work as artesians or merchants. Most immigrants tended to stay in the middle colonies due to Puritan control in New England. The Germans who came to the colonies usually set up shop in rich farmlands west of Philadelphia. Therefore this area began to adopt many Dutch cultures and continued to use their language, religion, and culture. These people also showed very little interest in British policies and ended up taking up 7% of America. The Scotch-Irish people were descendants from the Scotish and the Irish. These people had little regard for the British and ended up taking up 6% of the population.
