jan 1, 1686 - Dominion of New England(POL, CUL)
Description:
A new king was put into power and he set forward a plan to make the American colonies into royal colonies. His plan was to combine New Jersey and New York along with other New England colonies to create a single unit called the Dominion of New England. He sent a representative named Sir Edmund from England to be the governor of this new colony. He quickly gained distrust and resentment from the colonists by levying taxes and limiting town meetings. This caused the colonists to revolt in an uprising against him called The Glorious Revolution, where they succeeded in replacing him with two new sovereigns named William and Mary. After Sir Edmund left the colonies the idea of the Dominion of New England was given up on.
