jan 1, 1651 - Mercantilism and the Empire: Impact on the Colonies(WXT,POL)
Description:
In a reach for more power over the colonies, the English decided to bring in mercantilism to govern the colonies in America. These new policies although had some positive effects, mostly led to negative consequences and ultimately was the start of the British demise. At first New England’s shipbuilding began to prosper greatly and Chesapeak had a full monopoly of tobacco to sell to England. But ultimately these new rules were a mistake by Britain and caused a great amount of resentment to England from the colonists. England would have already been the main point of trade for the colonies and limited the development of manufacturing. The colonists began to revolt in small ways by buying goods off the Dutch and French without England’s knowledge.
