jan 1, 1651 - Mercantilism and the Empire: Mercantilism, Acts of Trade and Navigation(WXT,WOR)

Description:

During the 17th century many European nations were adopting mercantilism into the political and economic systems. Mercantilism consists of the government regulation trade from their colonies to maximize profit, all profits are measured using gold and silver, and the colony’s only purpose was to enrich the parent country and provide them with all resources. The English government also adopted this principle and created this policy with a series of Navigation acts called the Acts of Trade and Navigation. These acts consisted of 3 rules for colonial trade which were all trade must be carried out through British made ships which could be operated by either a colonist or an English man, all goods going through the country besides perishables must pass through English ports, and also some goods that were specified could only be traded to England, the original specified good was Tobacco but the list of goods greatly expanded.
