Pennsylvania is a colony to the west of New Jersey that was previously occupied by the Quakers. These Quakers were very peaceful and believed that religious authority was within everyone's soul. They also believed that men and women should be equal, nonviolence, and resistance to military service. These views challenged the English authority and they were ultimately prosecuted and jailed for their views. This religious town of primarily Quakers was founded by a man named William Penn. William Penn was that son of an admiral under the king, his father was not accepting of his beliefs but admired him for his sincerity and gave him a large sum of money.He set out to create a colony that had religious refuge for Quakers. He set out and crossed the ocean with a grid system for the new colony and wanted to require the land by respecting the native Indians and promised political and religious freedom.
