Description:

The United States started off as 13 colonies under the English monarch. Each one of these colonies operated under different charters, which are essentially a document stating your relationship with England and the special privileges that were present in your colony. Over time these charters developed into 3 main sub-categories such as Corporate colonies, which operated under joint stock companies, Royal colonies which were under direct authority from the King and the Monarch, and finally Proprietary colonies which operated off of charters granted by the king to different individuals. During the starting periods of the United States this is the way that the colonies functioned and all goods being produced ultimately went to the motherland.
