apr 1, 1899 - The Struggle of Organized Labor: Industrial Warfare: Scab, Lockout, Blacklist, Yellow-dog contract, Injunction

Description:

Management held more power and cheap labor increased. Employers were able to replace strikers with strikebreakers, or scabs which were people desperately looking for a job. The used various tactics to defeat unions. The lookout strategy closed the factory before a movement could get organized. The blacklist tactic exposed workers who were known to be involved with a union. They also made workers sign yellow-dog contracts so that they agree to never join a union and got court injunctions against strikes. These tactics brought in more aversion and public fear towards unions as they were deemed anarchistic and un-American since employers were always backed by the government anytime violence broke out.
