may 20, 1978 - Ida Mae doesnt like the living condtions in the north as they steadily decline.
Description:
The conditions in the north and the west for Ida Maes life for the most part was bad because the area went down hill. Not only that, but jobs were hard to find. She was afraid to go to church because the drug dealers would wait and try to talk to her. Wilkerson says "The neighborhood had changed around them, had become all black and significantly poorer and more crime-ridden than it had been when they arrived. " (Wilkerson 455) This is bad because her life will get worse and it is bad to be scared especially if you left the south to be safe and not scared.
