This was an extension of the Monroe Doctrine by which Roosevelt affirmed the right of the U.S. to intervening internal affairs of the Caribbean and Latin American countries to preserve oder and protect American interests. Therefore, this reinforced the U.S. foreign policy of imperialism and intervention in order to protect American economic interests.
