dec 30, 1831 - Nulification Crisis

Description:

Occurred because of tariff of 1828. Goal was to lesson foreign competition with American manufacturing. Got lots of backlash from south. North liked it because they are making more money when American goods were coming in. John C. Calhoun said any state can nullify a tariff they see as unconstitutional. South threatened to leave, then Jackson signed a treaty saying that there would be consequences if they threated to leave again.
