Fidel Castro becomes prime minister, after leading a revolutionary force to dismantle the regime of General Bautista. Castro declared a Marxist government. He established an agrarian economy. Many of the wealthy attempted to overthrow Castro from the US, which failed spectacularly (Bay of Pigs). The Soviet Union aided Fidel Castro, and left missiles in Cuba.
